Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how swipeout ("swipeout", "we", "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use the swipeout mobile app, join our waitlist, or visit getswipeout.app (together, the "Services"). swipeout is operated from Australia, and we handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This is a single, canonical policy that covers both our website and our app. Where a section applies only to one, we say so.
1. Information we collect
- Waitlist email — when you join the waitlist (web or app), we collect your email address and the source/campaign you arrived from.
- Account & sign-in data — if you create an account, we collect your email and basic profile details. You can sign in with Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In; we receive the identifiers and (where you allow it) name and email those providers share with us.
- Age / date of birth — to confirm you meet the minimum age and to show age-appropriate content (for example, hiding the Nightlife category for under-18 accounts).
- Profile & content — your onboarding answers and selected interests, the places and collections you save, and the groups and plans you create or join. This is information you create that we store in your account.
- Location — approximate or precise location (with your permission) so we can recommend nearby places. You can deny or revoke this in your device settings.
- Usage & device data (app) — in-app events, app version, device and OS type, and crash diagnostics, used to operate and improve the app.
2. Third parties that process data for us
We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") to run the Services. They process data only on our instructions:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and storage hosting for the app and waitlist.
- Vercel — hosting for the marketing website (getswipeout.app), including privacy-friendly, cookieless Web Analytics (aggregate page views and visits, website only).
- PostHog — product analytics and crash/diagnostic events, in the app only (not the website).
- Sentry — error and crash reporting in the app (when enabled).
- Google Maps Platform / Places — venue, place, and map data powering recommendations.
- Apple and Google — sign-in providers; Expo / push notification services — delivering notifications you opt into.
3. How we use your information
- To operate the waitlist and tell you when it's your turn.
- To provide the app: authentication, recommendations, group planning, saved collections, and notifications.
- To improve and secure the Services, debug issues, and understand in-app usage (app analytics only).
- To communicate with you about the Services and respond to your enquiries.
4. Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We disclose it only to the processors listed above, to other members of a group you join (e.g. your shared availability and swipes within that group), where required by law, or in connection with a business transfer.
5. Overseas storage and transfers
Some of our processors store and process data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States (e.g. Supabase, PostHog, Vercel). Where personal information is transferred overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the APPs.
6. Data retention
We keep waitlist emails until launch and for a reasonable period afterwards, or until you ask us to delete them. Account and app data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account (see your self-serve controls below), your account and associated data are erased immediately.
7. Your rights & self-serve controls
In the app, you can exercise your main privacy rights yourself, at any time, from Account settings:
- Export your data — download a machine-readable (JSON) copy of the personal data we hold about you, including your profile, preferences, saved places, collections, availability, group memberships, and messages.
- Delete your account — permanently and immediately erase your account and associated data. This can't be undone.
Under the APPs you may also request access to, or correction of, your personal information. To exercise any right, or to unsubscribe from the waitlist, email admin@getswipeout.app. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have mishandled your information.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security on our database — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and review our practices regularly.
9. Children & younger users
swipeout is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it. Where local law sets a higher age of digital consent, users below that age should have a parent or guardian's permission. For users under 18, we apply age-appropriate restrictions — for example, hiding the Nightlife category.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
